Mr. Shirey joined Ponder & Co. in 1994. As head of the Capital Markets Group, he directs the efforts of the firm related to fixed income investment management, investment agreements and derivative products.

Mr. Shirey has primary day-to-day responsibility for analysis, evaluation, structuring and pricing of interest rate swaps and other derivative products. He has advised health care clients on over $10 billion in interest rate swaps. Structures utilized include: fixed payer and receiver swaps, percent of LIBOR swaps, basis swaps, reversals of existing swaps, swaptions and options on existing swaps. With primary responsibility for ensuring optimal execution, Mr. Shirey has executed transactions on clients' behalf via a negotiated process with shadow pricing to verify market levels, or via a competitive bid. In addition, Mr. Shirey helps clients integrate the investment management process with arbitrage tax guidelines for municipal bonds.

Prior to joining Ponder & Co. he was employed in the investment banking sector specializing in tax-exempt structured financings for health care providers. In addition, he served as a portfolio manager for an equity management firm. Prior to assuming his current role at Ponder & Co., he was a fixed income portfolio manager responsible for over $750 million in assets under management.

Mr. Shirey is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Vanderbilt University with degrees in Mathematics and Economics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is a member of the Dallas Society of Financial Analysts.
